CHARACTER INFO
Character name: Prince Dastan of Persia
Fandom: Prince of Persia
Point in canon taken from: The Two Thrones, just before finding his Father in the Well of Ancestors
Appearance: Dastan’s arm is likely the most telling and noticed part of his body. As the result of a Daggertail embedded in his arm and subsequently infected by the Sands of Time, hooked blades stick out from his glowing, mutated skin. The infection has spread to his shoulder and part of his back, resulting in his general inability to wear anything with sleeves for the distinct possibility that they will be shredded. As such, he tends to go shirtless, instead choosing to just wear dark brown trousers tucked into his boots of the same color with a red sash and scabbard for the Dagger of Time and any weapons he procures from his defeated enemies.

Overall, the Prince is very muscular and fit for it was necessary to be so in order to survive the relentless chase from the Dahaka, the guardian of the timeline, over the course of seven or so years. His skin is dark from both is Middle Eastern ethnicity as well as spending much of his time outside while attempting to navigate his destroyed city. Curtaining his face is unkempt black shoulder-length hair that he rarely, if ever, ties back despite the benefits that being able to see better would provide. His eyes sometimes switch between his natural blue to gold when the Dark Prince within attempts to seize control of him.

As the Dark Prince, Dastan’s skin turns black and gold with the pattern of the daggertail wound lacing across it. The embedded chain extends out from his arms and he can now use it as a weapon in battle, extending and withdrawing it with ease. His hair appears as a sort-of dark fire atop his head. However, he does not turn into the Dark Prince often as he is trying to fight off the infection of the Sands.

Personality: Dastan, at one point, was a pompous, arrogant and impulsive young man. However, after he killed the Vizier and the Dahaka began its pursuit after him, he realized that in order to stay alive, his brash holier-than-thou attitude was unnecessary. He tends to be gritty and realistic about situations and trusts very few people but genuinely wants to do good in his life despite his violent streak. He vents his frustrations through climbing in wide-open spaces and has a distinct sense of claustrophobia. When placed in confined spaces, even just those of hallways, he becomes more edgy and nervous about those around him. If left alone, he tends to sulk, reflecting on how his mistakes have lead to a complete rewriting of history and the timeline and may lead to monologuing.

Dastan’s other personality, Dark Prince, which was created by his infection by the Sands of Time, is cruel and arrogant, reflecting Dastan’s original personality before the Dahaka began to hunt him. Dark Prince attempts to selfishly convince Dastan that they are the same person, which he struggles with. When he falls to his darker personality, Dastan becomes incredibly angry and violent, killing without any other reason than the fact that he is much stronger than those around him. Being around Farah has helped to subdue this side of him, but Dastan can still feel Dark Prince waiting for a chance to take over.

History: Dastan was born and raised in the city of Azad in Ancient Persia, where he grew up as the son of King Shahraman. During his childhood, he was raised to fight in several different styles of acrobatic combat, which he used to his advantage throughout his time serving in his father’s army. When the Azadians conquer the Maharajah of India (when Dastan is perhaps 17 or 18), Dastan raids the treasury to find the Dagger of Time and the Sands of Time within. Despite warnings from Farah, the daughter of the Maharajah, he accidentally unleashes the Sands of Time, resulting in the complete destruction of his kingdom and all the citizens, including his father the king, reduced to sand monsters. With Farah’s help, though, he works to undo this mistake, but results in her death. He travels back in time to before he raids the treasury of the Maharajah and kills the evil Vizier who provokes him to unleash the Sands of Time, neatly keeping the destruction from ever occurring.

However, by changing the course of time and preventing his own death, Dastan becomes the target of the Dahaka, the guardian of the timeline, who hunts down the prince in order to make sure that the man dies as he was meant to many years ago. He is chased unrelentingly for seven years before the prince fights his way to the Island of Time and there, kills the Empress of Time to prevent the Dahaka from continuing its pursuit. But, in killing Kaileena (the Empress of Time), he has, in effect, created the Sands of Time (which are made from her remains). To undo this mistake, Dastan discovers the Mask of the Wraith and, disguised as the Sand Wraith, prevents himself from killing Kaileena. In not killing her, the Sands of Time are never created and thus he never releases them in Azad. However, because Kaileena is alive, the Dahaka continues to pursue him until Dastan finally manages to destroy the guardian of the timeline with Kaileena’s help. After four months at sea, he returns to his home, Babylon.

To top all of this, because the Sands of Time were never created, the evil Vizier is alive and searching for a way to travel in time. He captures Dastan and Kaileena, killing the latter to make the Sands of Time anyway. In the process, Dastan receives a severe daggertail wound to his arm that, when infected by the Sands of Time that the Vizier creates, threatens to turn him into a monster. An inner Dark Prince rises as a result of the corruption of the prince’s soul from the Sands and threatens to take over Dastan’s body. To revenge Kaileena, Dastan relentless hunts the Vizier through the streets of Babylon and, as of this point in canon, has not defeated him yet.
